Three Primary Schools, a College and a local Sports Club are each recipients of $50,000 tala to fund the development of their respective sports fields.
The government assistance was approved by Cabinet based on applications submitted to the Ministry of Education Sports and Culture (MESC).
The assistance was handed over by Minister of Education, Sports and Culture, Loau Solamalemalo Keneti Sio to representatives from St Peters Primary School Falefa; Mulifanua Primary School, Samata-i-Tai Primary School, Aana Number 1 College, and the Vaiala Ulalei Sports Club.
Loau acknowledged the costs involved to establish sports fields and commended the work done by the schools and sports club to date.
“You already started the construction of your sports fields and you didn’t wait for Government’s assistance, which shows your determination and commitment,” said Loau.
“The assistance we are giving you today is not near enough knowing the construction costs for sports fields;
“The Government wishes to thank you all for your great role in the development of sports for our younger generations.”
Loau said the schools and sports club that were given assistance submitted requests to MESC and the government has been happy to respond.
The Aleipata College representative thanked the Government on behalf of the recipients present at the handimg over ceremony.
“We want to voice our thankfulness to the Government through the Ministry of Education for this assistance, and we hope that the Government will continue to take the lead in the development of sports in our country.”
