The theme of this year’s Remembrance Day was “Your service. Your sacrifice. Our remembrance.”

The service was held at the front of the FMFMII Government Building at Eleele Fou on Tuesday morning.

Speaking on behalf of the Government of Samoa, Prime Minister Laaulialemalietoa Leuatea Polataivao Fosi Schmidt said it was important that we stand together to honor those who have passed and are no longer with us.

“We salute their courage. We honor their commitment. And we acknowledge the sacrifice they made in the service of our country..” said the Prime Minister.

“Your service was given to Samoa. Your sacrifice became part of Samoa’s history. And your legacy continues through those who serve today..

“To your families, please accept our deepest respect and gratitude. Your loved ones may be gone from our sight, but their service remains part of who we are as a Service and as a nation.”

Speaking to all the police in the country, Laaulialemalietoa thanked them for their service to Samoa.

“The challenges facing our communities continue to evolve, but the fundamental responsibility of policing remains unchanged – to protect, to serve and to uphold the law..

“As the Government, we recognize our responsibility to support the Service and its officers..

“At the same time, we ask that integrity, professionalism, accountability and respect continue to guide the exercise of police authority,” added the Prime Minister and Minister of Police and Prisons.

He stated that every decision made by an officer can affect a person, a family and a community.

“Every interaction with the public is an opportunity to strengthen confidence and trust, and every officer has a role in carrying forward the legacy of those who served before them.”

“To the families of our fallen officers: Thank you for the loved ones you shared with Samoa.

“To those who have served and retired: Thank you for the foundations you helped build.
