Bluesky are pushing the Measles Initiative whereby the company has started providing free face masks to its walk-in customers at all its retail locations, and also to its entire staff to help protect against the measles epidemic.

The measles outbreak has caused three deaths including a 14 month-old; an 8 month old and a 37 year old, all suspected to be measles related. The Ministry of Health reports 314 suspected measles cases with 15 confirmed cases to date with 146 laboratory results pending.

Of the 314 cases, most are reported to be children less than 4 years of age which has led to MOH advising all pre schools to close early for the year.

Bluesky Samoa Chief Executive Officer Satish Sharma says the outbreak has led to a self reflection of what they are able to do as one of the nation’s leading telecommunication companies to help combat the impacts and spread

“This measles initiative has definitely broadened our view regarding what we can do to get involved in the resolution of problems in our communities.” said Satish Sharma,Bluesky CEO.

The Bluesky Staff will be handing out information flyers and mouth masks to customers who walk in to their retail stores.
