From Death to Life

Ephesians 2:1–2 “As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient.”

Over the last few devotions, we’ve seen Paul lift our eyes to the greatness of God’s power in Christ—power that raised Jesus from the dead, exalted Him above all things, and placed Him as Head over His Church. Now, in Ephesians 2, Paul brings that same power closer to home. The resurrection wasn’t only something God did for Christ—it’s something He does in us.

Paul begins with a sobering reminder: “You were dead in your transgressions and sins.” Before Christ, we weren’t just struggling—we were spiritually lifeless, cut off from God, unable to save ourselves. We were following “the ways of this world” and living under the influence of the enemy. It’s a picture of total helplessness. But it’s also the perfect setup for God’s amazing grace.

The same mighty power that raised Jesus from the grave has brought us from death to life. We have been rescued from darkness, awakened to truth, and made alive in Christ. What was once hopeless has become glorious, because God’s mercy reached us at our worst and transformed us completely.

This is the heart of the gospel: we were dead, but God stepped in. And the life we now live is evidence of His power and grace at work in us.

Prayer:
Father, thank You for rescuing me from spiritual death and bringing me to life through Jesus Christ. Help me never to forget what You’ve done for me. May I walk each day in gratitude and in the power of the new life You have given. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Have a great day. God bless and lots’a love,
Warren
