Freedom is Found in Knowing God

BEFORE YOU KNEW GOD

Galatians 4:8 “Formerly, when you did not know God, you were slaves to those who by nature are not gods.”

Paul reminds the Galatians of their past. “Formerly… you did not know God.” This is the starting point of every believer. Not neutral. Not searching in the right direction. But separated from God, living in ignorance of who He truly is.

Before Christ, all of us “WERE SLAVES.” Everyone serves something. Before knowing God, people give their lives to what is not God, false beliefs, empty systems, created things, or even self. Paul is clear, these are “NOT GODS” by nature. They have no power to save, no authority to rule, and no life to give. All they do is enslave us.

This is the tragedy of life without God. We serve what can’t satisfy us, we trust what can’t save us and we follow what leads us nowhere.

But everything changes when we come to know Him. To know God is not merely to know about Him. It’s to be brought into relationship with Him through Christ. To be freed from false masters and brought under the gracious rule of the true God.

Paul’s reminder is intentional… never forget where you came from. We were once enslaved to what isn’t God, but now through Christ, we know the true and living God. Don’t return to what once held you. Don’t give your heart to what cannot save you.

Prayer:
Father, thank You that You have made Yourself known to us through Jesus Christ. Remind us of what You have rescued us from, and keep us from returning to empty and false things. Help us to know You truly and walk in the freedom You have given. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
