01 Feb 2021, Mulinuu Courthouse. Former Police Sergeant and Prosecutor Khamtahn Stanley, appeared before the Supreme Court of Samoa this morning to face charges relating to the death of a 20 year old youth in November 2019.

Stanley appeared together with co-defendant Ulugia Lomalasi Laufili, a matai of the village of Vaiusu, both jointly charged with manslaughter.

Fuifui Ioane of the Office of the Attorney General declared Prosecution’s conflict of interest, on the basis that Stanley was a former prosecutor and colleague.

Fuifui made known to the Court that the Office of the Attorney General has secured former Attorney General Taulapapa Brenda Heather-Latu as Independent Counsel to prosecute the case on behalf of Police.

Justice Fepuleai Ameperosa Roma adjourned the matter to next week Monday for Taulapapa to appear and take over the matter.

Stanley and Ulugia on the other hand already entered their not guilty pleas to manslaughter last year through respective Counsels Afa Lesa and Steve Chan Chui.

It is alleged that Stanley and Ulugia beat the 20 year old youth after he was caught breaking into Stanley’s home.
