The body of a 60 year old fisherman from Satitoa, Aleipata was found at sea on Tuesday night after a search by his family and the Samoa Police.

Responding to questions from Samoa Global News, Deputy Police Commissioner Auapa’au Logoitino Filipo said the concerned family contacted Police after their father had not returned home by late afternoon.

“Our preliminary investigations are that the deceased had gone out in his canoe, and it may have capsized but that has not yet been confirmed,” said Auapaau.

The Deputy Police Commissioner said the search by police assisted by the family and villagers, led to the fisherman’s body being recovered, found at sea at Satitoa.

“We found him floating, however, investigations continue into the incident and to properly determine the cause of death,” said Auapaau.

The deceased’s body is at the Tupua Tamasese Meaole mortuary to await the outcome of police investigations, and may be retained for an autopsy.
