The Fijian Drua have beaten the reigning champions, Canterbury Crusaders by 20-10 in front of a passionate home crowd in Lautoka.

It is the second year in a row for the Fijian Drua to beat the Crusaders on home soil. Almost to the day on the 11th of March 2023 – Fiji recorded a stunning 25-24 upset of the Crusaders.

Today it was another hard fought win for the Fijian Drua with an energetic home crowd cheering them on every step of the way.

The Drua, led by livewire halfback Frank Lomani (who moved to the wing in the final minutes), were industrious, brave and aggressive.

The more the Crusaders tried to knock them over, the more the Drua sucked the hot air into their lungs and worked even harder to bash them back behind the advantage line.

The Drua will take huge confidence from the win as they head back to Australia to take on the Queensland Reds in Brisbane while the Crusaders have a Kiwi derby against the Blues in a rematch of last year’s final in Auckland.

After three rounds the Crusaders have yet to record a victory, having lost to the Chiefs and Waratahs in their previous games. Not since 1996, when Super Rugby was launched, have they made such an inauspicious beginning to a season.
