Caretaker Prime Minister Hon Fiame Naomi Mataafa acknowledged the immense contribution of Moataa Rugby Club to the development of Samoa..
Speech
Rev. Semikueva Faatoafe,
Cabinet Ministers,
Members of Parliament,
Esteemed elders of Moata’a,
Distinguished guests,
Rugby legends past and present and especially our young people—future bearers of our proud legacy,
Ladies and gentlemen,
It’s an honour to celebrate with you today 100 years of excellence, pride, and unity through the great game of rugby for the village of Moata’a.
Today’s parade was not just a spectacle of celebration—it was a living timeline of heritage. From the earliest players who laced up their boots on muddy village fields, to the sons of Samoa who carried our flag on global stages, the journey of Moata’a Rugby is one that has mirrored the growth, courage, and heart of our nation.
We gather here this morning not only to commemorate history, but to give thanks to our God Almighty for His guidance and protection. Also we acknowledge the pioneers, the coaches, the families, and the community who built something far greater than a team. They built a legacy that shaped character, lifted spirits, and united generations.

Moata’a Rugby has produced not just champions of the sport, but champions of service, discipline, and resilience. Their victories have brought Samoa to the world, and more importantly, brought pride to our people.
Let this centennial celebration remind us that greatness is born from community. That tradition, when grounded in values and faith, can carry us forward for another hundred years and more.
It has brought to my attention that you have considered the inclusion of the Samoa Men’s Deaf 7’s rugby into your seven a side rugby tournament as part of the celebration. This reflects your support in recognizing the commitment of the Samoan government in promoting the rights of persons with disabilities.
On behalf of the government and the people of Samoa, I salute the village of Moata’a and all who have carried this proud torch of rugby. May the next century be as bold, as spirited, and as unifying as the last.
Soifua ma ia manuia.
Fa’afetai tele lava, and let the celebrations continue.
