18 May 2021 Apia Samoa. The Samoa Police have arrested and charged a man for assault following an incident where a young boy was seen tied to a chair while he was being told off by his father.

“The incident happened earlier this year,” said Police Deputy Commissioner Auapaau Logoitino Filipo.  “Where a father had tied his son to a chair and scolded him.”

The incident was filmed and posted on social media which was widely shared. It prompted an immediate reaction from the Samoa Victim Support Group as well as the public.

The Police Commissioner said the images on social media led to a member of the public reporting the matter to Police. “This is what  triggered a police investigation.

Auapaau Logoitino said the father has been charged with assault and is remanded in custody until his first Court appearance later this month.
