EXCUSES EXCUSES EXCUSES
Proverbs 26:13 “A sluggard says, ‘There’s a lion in the road, a fierce lion roaming the streets!’”
Excuses are often dressed up as wisdom, but they’re really just fear in disguise. The lazy person in today’s proverb exaggerates his circumstances to justify doing nothing. Instead of admitting his lack of discipline and determination, he invents danger—“There’s a lion outside!”
We may not claim lions in the street, but our excuses sound just as convincing: “I don’t have time. I’m too tired. I’ll start tomorrow. It’s too risky. Someone else will do it.” When we magnify obstacles, we paralyse ourselves from taking action.
God calls us to live by faith, not fear. Obedience often requires courage in the face of real challenges. The truth is, most of our “lions” exist only in our imagination. Excuses keep us stuck; trusting God moves us forward.
Prayer:
Lord, forgive me for the excuses I make that keep me from doing what I know to be true and right. Give me courage to act, even when I feel afraid, and faith to trust that You will provide what I need. Help me stop exaggerating the obstacles and start walking in obedience. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
Have a great day. God bless and lots’a love,
Warren
