Digicel Samoa has come on board as official sponsors to the value of $3 million tala (USD$1.146m) for the 2019 Pacific Games, expected to bring over 4,000 athletes to Samoa from 20 countries around the region between 7-20 July 2019.
The agreement signed by the Minister of Education Sports and Culture, Loau Keneti Sio and the Chief Executive Officer of Digicel, Farid Mohammed places Digicel as official sponsor and exclusive telecommuncations partner of the 2019 Pacific Games.
Mohammed says that Digicel will provide all telecommunication needs for the Games, including wireless 4G+ superfast data at the Games village and all official games offices and venues.
“We applaud the Government of Samoa’s bold commitment in securing another great opportunity for Samoa, to create history in being the first Pacific nation to host the Games twice, in less than 20 years,” he said.
“We look forward to working together with the Government of Samoa through the 2019 Games Organising Committee, the Ministry of Education Sports and Culture, as well as other relevant ministries, in delivering the best Pacific Games next year.”
“Together, we are able to connect with and inspire Pacific athletes and fans around the region, and we look forward to working with the Games body to build the digital future of the Pacific Games.”
He added that Digicel understands and promotes the Pacific values in sport through technology and marketing campaigns that help break down barriers and engage new audiences.
“From a commercial perspective, our official and exclusive telecommunications sponsorship of the Samoa Pacific Games builds on the foundation of a long-term partnership with the Games Council, and demonstrates the long-term strength and appeal of our marketing programs,” he said.
