The women’s team from the Big Island of Savai’i will face the more established No Idea club in the finals of the 35th Digicel Marist International 7s.



The Savaii Queens secured two wins and one loss to qualify for the Cup finals to be held on Saturday at the St Joseph’s College fields. They beat La Oso by
beat La Oso by 21-0 and Striders by 14-5. The Queens also met No Idea and lost 10-5.



No Idea cruised their way to the finals.. having not conceded a single point against them. They put away Savaii Queens by 10-0 before thrashing Apia Maroons 32-0 and La Oso by 33-0.
Last years finalists Apia Maroons secured two wins over Tepatasi and Sisters United from American Samoa, however, losses to Striders and No Idea put an end to Cup Contention.
The 35th Digicel Marist International 7s tournament is the most prestigious rugby 7s in the South Pacific held annually. This year the 7s has once again attracted teams from Australia, New Zealand, American Samoa and of course, our cousins from Fiji.
The event was relocated to the St Joseph’s College fields just 3 days ago due to the current state of Apia Park after the recent Motherland concert.
The International Rugby 7s continues tomorrow with the men’s competition where 24 teams from 8 pools will be eyeing the Tupua Fred Wetzel championship trophy and $25k prize money.
