Petrol prices in Samoa have fallen slightly from 1 September 2026, while motorists and consumers using diesel and kerosene will face significant increases.
The Minister of Finance has announced the new retail petroleum product prices, inclusive of VAGST, for September.
Under the new rates:
● Petrol will decrease by 2.5 sene per litre, from $3.57 to $3.54.
● Diesel will increase by 32.5 sene per litre, from $3.89 to $4.22.
● Kerosene will increase by 29.3 sene per litre, from $3.48 to $3.78.
The September retail prices are based on cargo loaded in July and delivered to Samoa in August 2026.
According to the Ministry of Finance, petroleum products used in Samoa are sourced from Southeast Asian refineries, including those in Singapore.
Petrol prices have remained relatively stable in recent months, reflecting a balance in the international market.
Diesel, however, is subject to higher levels of competition because of its importance as a key input for the transport, construction, power and mining industries. The more complex refining process required to produce diesel also contributes to its higher cost.
The latest changes mean consumers will see a small reduction at the pump for petrol, but significantly higher costs for diesel and kerosene throughout September.
