Crusaders Survive Hurricanes Scare to make 3rd Final in a Row

29 June 2019, AAMI Stadium Christchurch.  The Crusaders will host the 2019 Vodacom Super Rugby final after clinching a tight 30-26 win over the Hurricanes in Christchurch tonight.

The Hurricanes got off to a slow start, kicking away possession but managed to score a late try in the first half to stay in the game and go to half time trailing by 13-7.

The 2016 Super Rugby champions came out a different team in the second half, testing the Crusaders defense and hit back to narrow the score 13-12.

The score board yoyo’d to 20-19 and then again to 27-26 in a match that entertained the crowd and had fans at the edge of their seats.

A passionate Hurricanes side gave it their all, gaining more possession (54%) and territory (54%) and even scored 4 tries to the Crusaders 3.

Richie Mo’unga of Samoan/Tongan decent put on a class performance kicking 6/6 off the tee and scoring a try of his own to earn 20 of the Crusaders 30 points.

Jordan Taufua came off the bench to be the first Pacific Islander and Samoan to play 100 Super Rugby matches for the Crusaders. The blindside flanker / no.8 who played for Samoa Under 20s in 2011 will be leaving the Crusaders to join the Leicester Tigers.

The Crusaders will host the Argentina Jaguares in Christchurch for their 3rd consecutive Super Rugby final.
