The Samoa Police have ordered an autopsy examination to determine cause of death of a man in Savaii who is suspected to have been beaten to death by a Church Minister.

Police Commissioner Su’a Fuiavailiili Egon said police launched an investigation when the death certificate produced could not be matched with the circumstances surrounding the death.

“There is an allegation with us that claims a church minister from Savaii is involved in the death,” said Sua.

He says the Samoa Police Service Criminal Iinvestigation Division (CID) investigators are working with the officers in Savaii on the case.

“Because of inconsistencies we are discovering in this case, we will be probing and continuing our investigation, including formally requesting an autopsy by a forensic pathologist to assist with determining the cause of death”.

The Police Commissioner says no arrests have yet been made.

This is a developing story.
