Christ Equips his People to Serve and Support one Another

EQUIPPED TO SERVE

Ephesians 4:11-12 “And He Himself gave some as apostles, some as prophets, some as evangelists, some as pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the building up of the body of Christ.”

Christ Himself is the one who supplies every servant and every gift the church needs. Paul’s emphasis here is not on titles but on purpose: that God’s people would be equipped and strengthened to serve one another.

This same truth is echoed in 1Corinthians 12, where Paul reminds us that there are “varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit,” and “varieties of ministries, but the same Lord” (vv. 4–5). Every gift comes from Christ, every ministry belongs to Him, and every believer is called to participate.

Just as the human body has many parts, each necessary and valuable, so the church grows when every member functions in the grace God has given. No one is useless. No one is giftless. No one is unnecessary. “To each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good” (1Corinthians 12:7).

When God’s people are taught, encouraged, strengthened, equipped, and mobilised by healthy church leaders, the whole church becomes healthier and more mature. Christ equips His people so that we may serve and support one another.

Prayer:
Father, thank You for the gifts You have placed within Your church. Thank You that by Your Spirit, each of us has a part to play. Help me to serve faithfully, humbly, and joyfully. Strengthen me for the work of ministry, and use my life for the good of others and the glory of Jesus. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
