
Friday 26 May 2023 Apia Samoa. The Central Bank of Samoa has released images of the limited edition 60 Tala banknote commemorating Samoa’s 60th Anniversary of Independence.
“The new 60 tala commemorative banknote design represents a celebration of a new era for Samoa, as it honours our first Prime Minster and Independence Day in 1962 while embracing our future with the first female Prime Minister 60 years later..”
Significance of Design
The obverse of the banknote will portray Samoa’s first female Prime Minister, the Honourable Fiame Naomi Matāa’fa in its 60th years of independence.
The reverse side of the banknote depicts the first Prime Minister of Samoa, the Honourable Fiame Matāa’fa Faumuina Mulinuu II, as he lowered the New Zealand flag on its first Independence in 1962.
Another milestone for Samoa is the fact that the signatures of two women will be on the banknote. The Hon Minister of Finance Mulipola Anarosa Ale-Molioo, and the Governor of the Central Bank, Maiava Atalina Enari.
The bank note also honors and recognises Samoa’s core strength as its foundation in God with the words; Folau ma le Faatuatua” as well as “Faavae i le Atua Samoa”.
Durability
The banknote will be printed on a cotton paper substrate. It includes an updated blue and green metallic thread with number 60 and Samoa whisk.
It will also have a unique watermark design featuring a teuila flower with CBS letters.
Circulation
The 60 tala commemorative banknote is legal tender and will be issued into circulation though Commercial Banks from 31st May 2023.
