24 May 2019, Apia Samoa. The CCCS has approved $1 million tala to go towards the legal fees of church ministers who have been charged for non compliance with tax laws.
General Secretary of the Church Reverend Vavatau Taufao confirmed that this was a approved line item in the Church budget for the coming year.
“The proposal to set aside funds for the legal coats involved has been approved;
“Legal fees are being incurred and this is a necessary cost;
“So we have set aside this one million tala for this purpose,” said Vavatau.
“O lea la ua mafai ai ona ta’atia ese le $1miliona aua lava lea vaega.”
The General Secretary added that the Court case continues for the 20 Church Ministers who have been charged and reiterated that the Church’s decision with regards to taxes cannot be tabled again until the 2021 General Conference.
