Bank South Pacific (Samoa) Limited (BSP) announced the winners of the annual BSP School Scholarship for 2020 – a fundamental program that gives performing students the helping hand they deserve to continue their education.

BSP is particularly proud of this initiate as it reaffirms its commitment to the Samoan community and its future generations.

The scholarships are an investment into our local community and will help pave the way for our next cohort of bankers, accountants, teachers, nurses, engineers and other professions.

A scholarship committee awards the scholarships based on school reports received by BSP for students who are performing well in school but families are facing financial challenges with payment of school fees.

“This year we received 200 applications with the majority from secondary students,” said Taitu’uga Maryann Lameko-Vaai, Country Manager for Bank South Pacific.

“Applicants were shortlisted based on 2019 academic results, reports from teachers and principals as well as testimonies from the parents. Following the committee’s assessment, we are pleased to announce 50 scholarships for this year, of which 25 are awarded to primary students and 25 to secondary students”.

“Every scholarship opportunity is a chance to transform the life of a student. There are many students who work incredibly hard but need support to help them find their path for success and BSP’s scholarships give the students the financial resources to make it happen;

“Since we commenced this scholarship program in 2012, we have been extremely pleased with the excellent achievements of past awardees, some of whom have moved on to university studies. We are confident that our scholarship students this year, will equally progress well into further studies;

“Congratulations on your achievements and I pray that God’s blessings will continue over all the children of Samoa.” said Taitu’uga.
