Strong wind gusts and sporadic extreme rainfall caused by Tropical Cyclone Tino has caused disruptions to the interisland ferry between Upolu and Savaii in the past two days.
This morning the Samoa Shipping Services announced a closure of services for the whole day.
“Good day everyone please be informed that there will be no sailings today due to worsening wind speeds. We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your understanding for safety is our priority”.
Yesterday the first sailing out of Upolu’s Mulifanua wharf was the small ferry at 8.30am with Lady Samoa III coming from Salelologa at the same time. Ferry services then stopped before 4pm as wind gusts and heavy rain started up again later in the day.
The Samoa Shipping Corporation warns the public that ferry times will change as they keep a close eye on the weather to ensure safety of passengers and crew.
“Please keep in mind that there might be sudden changes if weather conditions worsen. We thank you for your understanding as we do our best to accommodate your travel needs and ensure safety is priority”.

TC Tino has been declared a Category 3 as it moves away from Niue and towards Tonga.
