A taxi driver was stabbed in the neck by a 16 year old male passenger who did not have money for his fare.
The boy, just 16 years old, had taken the taxi towards the Tuanaimato area.
“When they had gotten close to where he wanted to be dropped off, he attacked the taxi driver with a pocket knife”, said Deputy Police Commissioner Papalii Monalisa Tiai-Keti.
The taxi driver had driven his vehicle into the SASNOC compound at Tuanaimato seeking help.
“Those who were there [at SASNOC] were able to detain the 16 year old until police arrived
The Deputy Police Commissioner said they requested a talanoa session with the parents of the youth.
Papalii says that for now, the boy has been charged with Actual Bodily Harm [Causing Injury] and armed with a dangerous weapon.
The 16 year old has been released on bail to await his first appearance on the 14th of February 2024.
