21 February 2022, World and Pacific News. A man, 36, has been charged with murder by Australian police after he allegedly cut off a 66-year-old man’s leg, in an incident reported from Innisfail, far north of Queensland.

Police told Australian media they believe the two men drove together to Fitzgerald Park at Innisfail. The pair exited the vehicle and sat under a tree in the park. About 20 minutes later, the younger man used a circular saw to cut the older man’s leg off below the knee. The suspect then assisted the wounded man back to the car before leaving the area on foot.

At 4.23am a member of the public found the injured man and called emergency services, but the 66-year-old died shortly afterwards.

Police believe the suspect had some sort of an arrangement or ‘pact’ where younger man would amputate the older man’s leg.

“During my 34 years as a police officer, I’ve never experienced a situation as we are presented with here today,” Detective Inspector Gary Hunter told Australian media. He called the incident “tragic” and said it was unclear why the man’s leg had been removed.

The suspect will appear in the Innisfail Magistrates Court on Monday.
