Samoa’s newest political party Faatuatua i Le Atua Samoa ua Tasi (FAST) have announced former Deputy Prime Minister Hon Fiame Naomi Mataafa as leader, just 4 weeks out from general elections.
In an official announcement to local media as well as on social media to the thousands of FAST supporters overseas, Fiame said the selection was peacefully made in open and frank discussions where members were all able to share their views and make their selection.
Fiame said, as a political party; the FAST membership representation covers a wide cross-section of Samoa society, and is therefore well placed to respond to various development needs of the nation.
Fiame resigned as a member of Prime Minister Tuilaepa Saielele Malielegaoi’s Cabinet on September 11, 2020; taking a stance against three controversial Bills passed into Law by a majority HRPP Parliament in December 2020.
