4 May 2022, International Firefighters Day, Apia Samoa. Minister for the Fire and Emergency Services Authority (FESA) Hon. Faualo Lefau Tauiliili Harry Schuster, has commended the hard work and dedication of Samoa’s firefighters.



In a special announcement recorded in the lead-up to today’s celebrations, the Minister says it is a time for Samoa to recognise the sacrifices made, by men and women firefighters in Samoa.
“The Samoa Fire and Emergency Services Authority will join the world in celebrating the international Fire Fighters day on the 4th of May 2022..
“While Samoa faces the difficulties of Covid-19, it is a time where we can recognise and honour the sacrifices that firefighters make for their communities and country..



“Their dedication is in the form of countless hours, selfless years of working in the service, and in all cases they are at risk with the ultimate sacrifice being the firefighters life..
“The International Firefighters Day also acknowledges the ability and effort of women in the service..
“It is also the day which current and past fire fighters who have lost their lives in the line of duty can be thanked for their contributions to society..
“Let us celebrate together the selfless acts of these unsung heroes through these tough times..,” said the Minister.
The theme for this year’s celebrations is, “Reminisce with Gratitude, moving forward Diligently in Faith”
Samoa’s Fire and Emergency Authority team is made up of 178 permanent staff – 33 females and 145 males. In addition there are 50 registered volunteers of whom 30 are active.
A special service will be held at the Faleata Fire Station at 9am this morning.
