PUTTING AWAY BITTERNESS
Ephesians 4:31 “Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice.”
Paul calls believers to an intentional clearing of the heart. The words “get rid of” are strong and deliberate—they speak of removal, not management. These attitudes don’t belong in the life of someone who has been made new in Christ.
Christmas is a fitting season for this kind of heart work. As we remember the coming of Jesus—the One who stepped into our broken world with grace and humility—we are reminded of the forgiveness we have freely received. Christ didn’t hold our sins against us; He laid them upon Himself. In the light of His mercy, bitterness loses its justification.
Bitterness often grows from unresolved hurt, but Christ invites us to bring those wounds to Him. This Christmas, laying aside anger and malice isn’t about denying pain—it’s about choosing freedom. When we forgive, we aren’t excusing what was done; we are releasing it into the hands of a faithful and just God.
As we celebrate the birth of our Saviour, this is a sacred opportunity to offer others the same grace we have received. A heart cleared of bitterness makes room for peace, joy, and love—the very gifts Christ came to give.
Prayer:
Father, thank You for the gift of Your Son and for the forgiveness I have received through Him. This Christmas, help me to lay aside all bitterness, anger, and malice, and to extend grace to others as You have extended it to me. Heal my heart, guard my words, and fill me with the peace of Christ. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
Have a wonderful week. God bless and lots’a love,
Warren
