At 6pm on Chirstmas eve, local media were in the Prime Minister’s Office attending his last press conference before the festive season break and an opportunity to receive a summary of the most recent Cabinet decisions (FKs) from this past week.

Prime Minister Hon Laaulialemalietoa Leuatea Polataivao Fosi Schmidt has been putting in the hours since his return from New Zealand and it is not unusual for weekly press conferences to go beyond 6pm-7pm.

Christmas eve was no exception. The Prime Minister delivered a set of key issues for the information of the public, before opening the floor for the usual Q&A session.

Topics covered included Police Raids, the appointment of district development committee Chairs, crucial equipment being brought in for the national hospital, delays in the arrival of generators for EPC (Samoa Global News www.samoaglobalnews.com)

The Prime Minister’s press conferences are live streamed on the Government of Samoa social media page and this week, comments were opened up to the public for the first time.

The Prime Minister, however, called on the public to maintain respect and keep comments within Samoa’s cultural values of faaaaloalo, vā tapuaia and tamaalii.

When Laaulialemalietoa came into Office the process is that comments are blocked on the Prime Minister’s press conference lives.

In opening up the comments section of the live, the Prime Minister says it is important for the public to air their views, give constructive advice and be able to contribute to discussions of important development issues facing Samoa.

But warned against bullying and individuals being abusive, using foul and vulgar language.

“Ae lē.o le laulauvavale ma le faitio i auala e faatupu ai le vevesi..”
