

8 March, 2019. Samoa – The Government of Japan has been providing funds to local Government schools through the Grant Assistance for Grass-Roots Human Security Project (GGP) since 1991.
The official handover ceremony of “The Project for Reconstruction of Faleatiu Primary School” a GGP project, was held earlier today (March 08) at the Faleatiu school compound.
His Excellency, Maugaoleatuolo Shinya Aoki, Ambassador of Japan to Samoa, represented his Government at the ceremony attended by the Minister of Education, Sports and Culture, Hon. Loau Solamalemalo Keneti Sio, Member of Parliament for Aana Alofi No. 3, Minister of Communication, Information and Technology and President of the school committee, Hon. Afamasaga Lepuiai Rico Tupai, Chief Executive Officer of the Ministry of Education, Sports and Culture, Dr. Afamasaga Karoline Afamasaga-Fuata’i, villagers, chiefs and orators, students, teachers and parents.
The school committee received funds totalling of USD$90,752 (about SAT$223,362.05) on 08 March 2018 which enabled the project implementation of reconstruction of classrooms floors, ceilings, lighting fixtures, reconstruction of a staff room, a library, a computer lab as well as the toilet block.
Prior to the project, Faleatiu’s school building was not constructed in an up to standard with insufficient resources.
The Government of Japan through its GGP is pleased to be a part of the development process in rebuilding of the school infrastructure and amenities to ensure that Faleatiu students can access to a more comfortable and healthier learning environment.

The GGP aims to aid self-supporting socio-economic development activities that benefit sectors which includes education at the grassroots level in Samoa.
Many rural communities have benefitted from the GGP which indicates Japan’s continuous commitment to contribute to the improvement of the living standards and welfare of the people of Samoa which continues to enrich the warmly existing partnership and friendship of the two nations, Japan and Samoa.
