CHOOSE YOUR BATTLES

Proverbs 20:3 “It is to one’s honour to avoid strife, but every fool is quick to quarrel.”

We’ve all been tempted to jump into an argument—to prove our point, defend our pride, or have the last word.

But Proverbs reminds us that there is honour in walking away from unnecessary conflict. Not every disagreement is worth turning into a battle.

When we are quick to quarrel, we may win the argument but lose something far more valuable: peace, trust, and connection with others.

Constant quarrelling can damage marriages, friendships, workplaces, and even churches. It fosters bitterness, drains emotional energy, and breaks down communication.

People begin to walk on eggshells around someone who’s always ready to fight. Relationships deteriorate when we prioritise being right over being loving.

Choosing peace doesn’t mean we ignore the truth or never speak up. It means we use wisdom to discern when to speak and when to stay silent.

A gentle spirit has more power to heal than a sharp tongue ever will. Jesus calls us to be peacemakers, not troublemakers.

Ask yourself:

Is this argument really necessary?

Will it build up or tear down?

Is this about truth or about ego?

Choosing not to quarrel isn’t weakness—it’s wisdom. It reflects a heart that values peace over pride, and relationships over being right.

Prayer:
Father, give me the wisdom to know when to speak and when to stay silent. Help me not to be easily provoked or quick to argue. Teach me to pursue peace, even when I feel misunderstood or wronged. May my words build up and not tear down, and may I reflect Your grace in every conversation. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Have a great week. God bless and lots’a love,
Warren
