11 May 2019, Apia Samoa. The Samoa Blind Persons Association [SBPA] held a three day Brush Making and Binding Training Program earlier this week at the Nuanua O Le Alofa Conference Room, Ground Floor of Pat Ah Him Nia Mall Building, Saleufi.
The three days training wil Introduce selected members of the organization to the skills of Brush Making and binding.
“It will provide members with possible tips to translate this skill into potential sources of income and our aim is that they will then contribute to the development of their families.”
Mr Markus Niiranen, a good friend of the organization from Finland conducted the training. Markus’ partnership with the Samoa Blind Persons Association began when he visited Samoa in 2014 and donated resources for the Association for the writing of Braille and White Canes.
Mr Niiranen learned the skills of brush making during his younger days while he attended a school for the blind in Finland. Making and selling different kinds of brushes has helped him earn a living and has enabled him to travel the world.
“I hope to share this talent to help my brothers and sisters here in Samoa,” said Niiranen.
